Eating Disorders

Eating disorders can be the result of complex issues – that may or may not have anything to do with body image. Stress, anxiety, trauma, obsessive behaviour, substance misuse or any number of other factors could lead to an eating disorder.

The most common eating disorders are:

Anorexia nervosa – where the sufferer eats tiny amounts of food, being almost on a starvation diet, and/or exercises excessively.

Bulimia – where the sufferer eats, but then tries to control their intake by making themselves vomit or by using laxatives.

Binge eating – where the sufferer is driven to eat excessively, beyond physical need or hunger

Eating disorders may also occur with other presenting conditions – and will be treated at the same time.

Our clinics are extremely sensitive to dietary needs and work with the sufferer to explore the root cause of the condition, whilst developing healthy, positive responses to food.
